ECHOLINK SETTINGS

Coffee Shop Settings

When you frequent Our Coffee Shop you will learn that there are certain procedures that we follow to enhance the flow of communication and allow every person on the radio or in echolink to get the most out of their time in Our Coffee Shop. These procedures have proven themselves to be effective and necessary to the smooth and enjoyable experience that is only found in Our Coffee Shop. The moderators have studied for many years and have identified problems in other round-tables and nets; they have taken measures to reduce these problems as much as possible. After reviewing the "Our Coffee Shop" procedures you may want to automate adherence to lessen the worry of "am I following the rules". Obviously not all procedures can be controlled by the settings

One of our procedures here in Our Coffee Shop is to only talk for a maximum of 2 minutes and 30 sec at a time between five-second breaks. The reason for this is to allow any station, especially emergency stations, the opportunity to make contact with the appropriate parties without being over-ridden.

THERE IS NO SETTING TO ENSURE YOU MAINTAIN 5 SEC BREAKS BETWEEN TX'S.

YOU CAN HOWEVER LIMIT YOUR TX TIME.

The Standard procedure within Our Coffee Shop is to limit transmissions to 2 minutes and 30 sec. It is very easy to set echolink to give you a reminder when you are in danger of going over the standard 2 minutes and 30 sec.

Simply open Echolink on your computer Go to "tools" on the top menu bar. Choose "setup" Once the window opens go to the "timing" tab. Under "transmit time limit" type in 150. Click "OK" at the bottom of the window.

This setting will remind you when you are in danger of going over your 2 min and 30 sec. time limit by giving you an audible cue as well as a countdown to when your transmission will be dropped

SETTINGS: AUTOMATICALLY LIST YOU AS BUSY WHEN YOU ARE CONNECTED TO OUR COFFEE SHOP

One way of simplifying your experience within our coffee shop is to list your station NOT alowing multi conferencing. This means that when you connect to Our Coffee Shop, no one can connect to you. They simply have to go and connect to the CONFERENCE *KB4SVP*

1) Open Echolink on your computer 2) Go to "tools" on the top menu bar, Choose "preferences," Then Choose "connections. 3) Ensure that the "Allow Conferences" box, has a check mark. 4) In the limit box: this is the amount of connections (your choice). 5) In the 3rd box below: (Allow multi conferencing) NO check mark. 6) Click "OK" at the bottom of the window

LURK:Another procedure that we like to follow in Our Coffee Shop is that of changing your status from the counter to the kitchen (lurking). The lurking status in our coffee shop gives us an indication that you are not included in the visible rotation of the round table (counter), in other words it lets us know that you want to listen and not be included in the QSO (in the kitchen).Of course you can come back to the counter any time (visible) by (delurking)

 Here is how to LURK.

Open Echolink on your computer, Then go to our coffee shop (CONFERENCE *KB4SVP*) Type in the text bar .lurk (Make sure you put the period before lurk.) Then press send or enter. Now you are in the kitchen.

DELURK:

Type in the text bar .delurk (Make sure you put the period before delurk.)Then press send or enter. Now you are back at the counter (visible
